Experiment Success of Cultivating King-size Saltwater Pearls
South Sea pearl/ Tahitian pearls have been cultivated successfully in South China Sea, exactly in the waters around Northern Gulf in Beihai, Guangxi, China.
Maybe when people refer to South Sea pearl / Tahitian pearls, most would connect South Sea pearls with Australia, Indonesia, Philippine, Myanmar while Tahitian pearls with Polynesia in France or Cook Islands in South Pacific Ocean. But from now it seems quite improper since both South Sea pearls & Tahitian pearls can be cultivated successfully in the waters of Northern Gulf in Beihai, Guangxi, China.
Several weeks ago, B.W.G Pearl took out some of Pinctada Maxima oysters & Pinctada Margaritifera oysters which have been nucleated in B.W.G Pearl Farm in April of 2009, in order to check how the pearls are nurtured. Finally we found one Margaritifera pearls & one Maxima pearl respectively after we opened merely three oysters from our farming rack where the oysters are dangled in the water. After checking the oysters & pearls on the respect of important factors related with oyster’s health & pearl quality, most of experts agreed to draw a conclusion that the experiment pearl-cultivation achieves great success taken in the oysters of Pinctada Maxima & Pinctada Margaritifera.
When being asked why the experiment cultivation has been carried out in Northern Gulf of South China Sea, B.W.G Pearl experts said that it comes by chance originally. In 2008, our technicians discovered accidentally there grow some oysters of Pinctada Maxima & Pinctada Margaritifera in wild waters around Weizhou Island when they investigated water environment for pearl cultivation. Through further investigation, our experts found the water body is characterized with deep water & clear water filled with abundant planktons but with no high tides around Weizhou Island—a dominant volcanic island, most of which are quite similar to the water environment in Indonesia where South Sea pearls are cultured. In addition, there used to exist an ancient pearl pond around Weizhou Island which was famous in history of China, namely called as Duanwang Pond (literally Hope-breaking Pond) where natural pearls were found since some ports or bays are surrounded with big rock that can prevent red tides from typhoon and as well the temperature & the salt-percentage preserve stable in the waters with no pollution.
Coming back to the pearls we found this time, it measures 8.15mm and 8.4mm in diameter. They appear a little small and seem imperfect in shape but we feel strongly confident about the Maxima & Margaritifera pearl farming in our B.W.G Pearl Farm of China, especially after we heard the analysis from experts on the saltwater cultivation.
